New City Market
I have often talked about my favorite little grocery store in Des Moines...New City Market. I finally got around to taking some photos of it for you all to see! Isn't it adorable? My favorite section is (of course) the bulk bins. I love to shop at New City for several reasons:- It's local and they support local farmers.
- The staff members are helpful and kind.
- They remember who we are.
- There are only 4 aisles.
- They care about the same "issues" that I care about (i.e. organic, non-GMO, etc.)
- I don't have to stand behind the guy buying a big slab of factory farm beef, Cheetos, Fruit Loops, and white bread.
- They don't look at me like I have 2 heads when I hand them my cloth bags.

Oh it looks so nice :) Please tell them they need to move to VA so that we too may enjoy the local organic goodness, LOL. Ahh... if only Des Moines weren't so far from VA...

Your pictures remind me of my local food market. It makes me happy to go there.
I have gotten the "two heads" look at my grocery store when I use my cloth bags! I have stood behind the SAME GUY at my grocery store too! (He must travel a lot) Oh, how I yearn for a New City Market in Cville! (Perhaps I should just open one myself!)
My local mainstream Kroger has completely redone their organic section and it is great! I am not close to Wild Oats or Trader Joes. I used to moan having to drive an hour or more one way. But no more! I have even e-mailed Kroger to let them know how pleased I am to see such beautiful organic produce,not to mention the aisles of organic flours,canned goods,essential oils,Seventh Generation products,fair trade coffees,etc. etc. Yippee!!
Those pictures remind me of the local food co-op complete with creaky old wood floors and set in a turn-of-the-century building with high ceilings. Reminds me that I need to stop by there soon. :)
What a sweet little market. WIth all the chain stores, these places are becoming rarer and rarer.
I am seriously drooling onto my keypad, looking at that bulk food section. We don't have anything like that here, so I must live vicariously through you. There is a place in Savannah, GA called Brighter Day, that I am going to visit soon. If it's bulk section is half this fabulous, I will be in heaven!
Looks quite good, it looks very similar to the one near my house, it is from another chain, but the one in the picture is older than the one close to my house.
It is a great market, the location is very good, plus they have some really good products that other places dont have.
